Learn How to Build Shelter

Fill out our form below to download the Los Angeles Case Study, highlighting how Pallet and the city found land for shelter sites, provided wrap-around services, worked with volunteers to build, and more.

Around 66,436 people in Los Angeles County alone are experiencing homelessness.* To address this need, the City of Los Angeles has built nine Pallet shelter villages since 2020.

For the thousands of people who live on the streets, housing couldn’t come fast enough. Pallet shelter villages were built at speed and scale to serve an immediate need. Each 64 sq. ft. Pallet shelter has one or two beds, locking doors, personal climate control, and storage for possessions. Los Angeles County has on-site services at all villages, from meals and showers, to case management and mental health services.

Those who are homeless right now, many of them are living in encampments, under bridges, on dirt lots…To be able to come and to have a place that is your own, have bathroom facilities, have three meals a day — you have all the resources you need to get back on your feet.

– Ken Craft, Hope of the Valley President and service provider for Chandler and Alexandria Park
